Oil, The Reason Why
Ethanol expert David Blume explains the reason why we have oil used in our cars today in a short video packed with interesting data. David starts by saying how in the 1800's alcohol was used as a clean energy source in lighting and heating. The city of Cincinnati ground and fermented 12,000 bushels of corn a day for street lighting before cars were even invented. Ethanol is 98% pollution free. When cars were introduced they were first run on alcohol. When gasoline was invented the cars run on both alcohol and oil, a bi product of the lighting and heating industry that Rockefeller started. He tells how he would dump the volatile substances into the river at night when no one was looking. He eventually found a way to turn it into fuel. There was more alcohol than gas for cars, you could stop anywhere, a farm, a roadside and get your car filled up. Rockefeller went to a woman's group in 1913 called the Christian Tempest Movement and gave them 4 million dollars using it as a charity front and told them to stop the production of alcohol in America. This was called Prohibition. 4 million dollars back then was one hell of a lot of money. Equal to about 60 million today. He asks the question "Can we buy congress today for 60 million dollars?" This resulted in all male drinking alcohol congress who voted for a constitutional amendment not to ban alcohol but to ban the production of it for any purpose other than drinking. Two thirds of congress had to vote in order to get the bill approved. Rockefeller for 13yrs consolidated oil and tried to get the rest of the world to agree to prohibition but failed. We now use 160 billion gallons of oil with 25.5 million barrels a year stockpiling. About 701 million barrels total in reserves at present. He has of course since passed on that legacy. Standard oil gained almost complete control of American oil refining and marketing. They monopolized the market until courts ordered the company to be split into 34 separate companies. Continental oil which is now Conoco-Phillipps, Standard of Indiana which is now Amoco, Standard of California which became Chevron to name but a few. Hmmm! Why don't we have alternative energy?
