Ike

Hurricane Ike is soon to hit the Galverston coast, over a million people have been told to evacuate and go to safety.

I commend the governor of Texas for his smart mandatory evacuation and concern for his citizens, flee or force certain death, many can take note that it is better to be safe than sorry.

Ike is huge, and will cause tremendous damage if it hits and is estimated to cause 3 times the damage that Katrina did, when it hit several years ago. Mother nature sure is angry.

Speaking of Mother Nature I have to wonder, if you take from this planet do you not put back?
The American Indians did, and they survived in harmony with nature.
When we drill for oil do we put back or leave holes in the earth? Would the earth not shift?

Would our incessant drilling ultimately cause more storms?

Ike if it hits, could cause 15.3 billion dollars in damage. Where will that money come from if we are already bankrupt?
Lives could be so enhanced with money spent here rather than spent on stealing oil from other countries.
Money can not come out of no where and although these people deserve their lives to be rebuilt I fear another tax hike.

I guess oil prices will rise again as it is already up today at $5 dollars a gallon.
I wonder how long it will take us as a nation to demand a government that works for the people.

Whoever takes presidency they are going to get hit with the grunt of wasteful spending that has done nothing for our people. I hope we remember who did this and not blame them.

Will the government and FEMA do their job this time and allow people to get on with their lives or will they show the same ineptness as in Katrina.
There are many thousands still displaced from Katrina and there is no substantial damage made up. The government continues to ignore the situation.

Sadly I fear the track record of our government is not of a caring nature, not for the greatest good and Mother Nature will continue to reprimand us for not taking care of her subjects.

But, perhaps there will be some help this time since Bush was the Governor of Texas. It will be interesting to see how much help Texas gets in compared to Katrina victims.

I am sure the Governor of Texas will demand aid for his people since he cares about them but wonder how much will he get?

No matter what, thankfully there are a lot more of us than the government and we take care of our own. There will be all those wonderful citizens who rally and help their fellow neighbors while our our government sleeps.
