Growing Up in South Shields My early childhood I lived in a place called South Shields. It is located on the northeastern coast of England. It is a seaside town and I loved living there. Every Saturday my Grandmother would take me to the docks and buy fresh prawns, winckles and crabmeat right of the boats. We would go home and eat as much as we could digging our pins into the little shells of the winkles, snapping the tails and heads from the prawns and enhailing the succulent crabmeat. Afterward the adults would play cards. When I got older I was allowed to play as long as I didn't have a tantrum when I lost. We would always play for pennies and of course the adults always made sure that I won at least one game. When all was said and done my uncle Jim and Grandfather would throw their winnings up in the air and shout "Scrambles". I had to make a dash and try to grab as much of the money as possible. Whatever I collected I got to keep. Later I was allowed to watch the late night movie usually a Boris Karloff type. I have been away for over 30yrs and yet every once in awhile I still remeber growing up in South Shields.
