Green City
With all the technology today and so many individuals and companies working for solutions to the energy situation, it is surprising that we still do not have our first green city. Government tells us that it will take ten years to get alternate energy to replace oil. We can put a man on the moon, communicate to someone thousands of miles away instantly, we can save someones' life, we can travel to a different country in a matter of hours, we can deploy war activities in seconds but we cannot get our government to change. The first green city would be one that uses solar power on government buildings. Wind power in allowable areas. I dare not think how much governments spend monthly on electric bills. It would behoove them to purchase solar power and install on all government buildings including libraries, justice halls etc., It is not like they can not afford to purchase (we pay them plenty) or work out some buying system from providers. They cannot afford not to. It would save the country and taxpayer millions of dollars. It would free up money that could be spent better elsewhere to improve our existence. Our government is doing well on passing laws in the guise of it bettering it's people, everyday there is a new law put forth. If they made a law that anyone building from now on had to put solar, wind or or other type of alternative in the buildings and homes we would have a dramatic release. Even if they made it 50 percent of the energy in the buildings for the next 2 years and then 100 percent after that. It would be just as easy to set up the 100 percent as it would for the 50 percent. The government could at a 2 per cent interest rate offer to purchase alternatives for home owners so that they did not have to wait till they could save for a purchase themselves instead of just giving tax incentives. This would be a much better use of funds than going to war for oil. For businesses, especially the larger corporations, it would be mandatory to purchase 100 percent alternative energy. The amount of money spent would be quickly recovered by not having to pay an electric bill. Cost of goods could go down after initial payment and be passed on to the consumer therefor helping our economy. Smaller business would be able to get loans at the 2 percent rate so that they would not be left out. Low income housing would be subsidized by the government. These are the people who need help the most and would therefore benefit not having an additional electrical payment. The money would be well spent on feeding a child or two. Apartment owners not able to raise the funds would fall under the 2 percent cost from the government. Condo owners are the same as home owners but would join together to pay in association fees. Geothermal energy could be developed in the meantime so that all people could get the benefits. It is much safer than Nuclear power and can be recycled. The electric could be better used in hybrid electric stations. The government could make it mandatory that each car produced have the capabilities of a conversion. There are plenty to chose from already, electric, water, bio diesel, grape seed oil, vegetable oil, and in Japan they have solar cars. Solutions are available to us here and now. Our government just has to stay at home and take care of it's people. We could have the first green city in a matter of months not years. It would provide jobs, better economy, and happier healthier people. The government would not be too happy of course because it would eliminate our dependency on them and they would have no reason to go to war. They are not quick on getting out of the oil business because they own the oil. They make money by going to war. But, it is time we got a government that did benefit the people not their wallets. We have given our government enough breaks it is time they gave us one. |

Yeah, you really have to wonder why a lot of this hasn't already occured...like 30 years ago during an earlier "energy crisis".
